Jolyn Phillips: the stage is hers at Woordfees
Jolyn Phillips, UWC’s own PhD student and lecturer, is known for her successful collection of Afrikaans short stories, Tjieng Tjang Tjerries and Other Stories. Come and see the adaptation of her acclaimed book from page to stage as her play debuts at Woordfees 2018.
Her story is set in a fictional fishing town, and captures the language, loves and losses of lives filled with responsibilities and social inequalities, a metaphor for a forgotten people. But the story also offers a theme of hope, examining the power of choice and discovery in every life.
Jolyn is also responsible for the music for the play - not a surprise to anyone who’s heard her singing at many events, and a delight for those new to her talents.
