The memorial service for Professor Jaap Durand will be held this weekend.

After the service refreshments will be served at the Faculty of Theology at the University of Stellenbosch in Dorp Street.
Professor Durand was an alumnus of the University of Stellenbosch, among others, but he served as an academic and became the Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of the Western Cape (UWC). Here he bravely fought against the apartheid regime and made an invaluable contribution to the institution’s academic growth. In addition, he defied the oppressive regime by erecting some of the UWC’s most iconic buildings.
Professor Durand will always be honoured as one of the fearless individuals who worked tirelessly to ensure that UWC becomes one of the leading higher education institutions in the country.
