It is with great sadness that we have to share the untimely death of one of our Ph.D students in the Department of Statistics and Population studies, the late Mr Teboho Morule (30 April 2022).

Mr Teboho Morule: A late PhD student in the department of SPS
A former student in the department of Statistics and Population Studies, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Teboho completed his Masters degree at North West University, before joining UWC. He was, previously, working as an Actuarial Scientist before he decided to enrol for his PhD degree at UWC.
Teboho was an excellent data scientist, knowledgeable and very motivated to accomplish an excellent and meaningful PhD degree, entitled “Learning condition of African children migrants in South Africa”.
As his supervisor, Dr Nsengiyumva, I saw a great level of perseverance and determination for him to succeed. He was a very kind, smiling and respectful student, strongly committed to his research, who decided to leave his hometown in Johannesburg to settle in Cape Town, to avoid any distraction, and use UWC facilities.
It is with extreme sadness that the department had to write Teboho’s tribute today, as we were expecting to write his PhD citation in a few years.
As a department, Faculty, and the whole university, we wish to extend our sincere condolences to his family, fiancée, friends and colleagues. May his soul rest in peace. He will be greatly missed. Mr Teboho Morule, our late PhD student (4218965) was an invaluable human being and much loved.
