The Jakes Gerwel Fellowship is committed to nurturing expert teachers who embrace innovation and lead change in South Africa. We are opening our 3rd year intake / graduate intake to all students who are passionate about leading educational change in South Africa. We envision three pathways of impact: classroom teaching, educational leadership and educational entrepreneurship.

Our commitment to you is for three years: one year when you are in your PGCE plus dedicated support and mentoring during your first two years of teaching.

Q: What do you cover as a scholarship?
If you are selected for the Graduate Teaching Fellowship, we will support you with:

• Full tuition
• Full residence fees
• Textbook allowance up to R 5 000
• Monthly stipend
• A personal development coach to assist transition from student to professional
• Mentoring and support in the classroom during your PGCE and the first two years in the classroom
• Laptop for studies plus four-year warranty
• Expert programmatic wrap around support of your personal and professional development as you transition from PGCE to a newly qualified teacher
