JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, 1 A6pril 2020 

As part of Samsung’s recently unveiled R280-million Equity Equivalent Investment Programme (EEIP), Samsung South Africa is funding the creation of a Microsoft AppFactory at the University of the Western Cape which is located in Bellville, Cape Town.

Samsung and UWC partnered with the Microsoft AppFactory to deliver an advanced nine-month software development programme to address the gap of high-demand software skills. The target group for this initiative is more experienced software developers who lack practical or work experience. The aim is to facilitate hands-on, real-world experience through creativity and fun in a learning and working environment. 

Young South Africans who are enthusiasts and IT graduates are offered the initial hands-on experience they need to succeed as professional junior software developers; able to design, develop & deploy software solutions for a Cloud First, Mobile First world.

It is a work-based internship writing software solutions for clients and mentored by senior software developers.

We’re looking for interns who are passionate to exercise writing code every day, practice modern techniques and clean code, and eager to research new technologies and share it with their peers.

The AppFactory applies a direct approach to skills development with real project owners, real projects and fully dedicated mentorship by experienced master software craftsmen directly from the industry. 

The applicants must:
•Between 18 and 35
•a South African Citizen
•Must have a Matric/Senior Certificate
•Not currently studying (neither full nor part time)
•Have a programming qualification.

We are currently recruiting promising and aspiring software developers to apply to join the UWC AppFactory. 

Apply to become an apprentice developer and spent up to 9 months working with a team of intern developers and a senior software mentor and develop your essential workplace skills and the ability to design and implement modern software solutions.

The AppFactory at UWC (commencing as soon as possible after COVID-19 lockdown) is open to student applications.
