The University of the Western Cape proudly announces that one of our PhD candidates in Medical Biosciences, Mr. Adesola Oluwaseun ADELEYE, has been awarded the prestigious 2024 CUSABIO Biotechnology Scholarship. This global recognition, conferred by CUSABIO Technology LLC, highlights exceptional academic achievements and provides $1,000 in funding to support ongoing research.

Adesola was selected from a competitive pool of 32 semifinalists from universities around the world, in recognition of their academic excellence and groundbreaking research titled "Antidiabetic and Anti-carcinogenic potential of synthetic curcumin derivatives using C2C12 myotubes, TM3 Leydig, and human cervical cancer cells." Under the supervision of Dr. C. S. Opuwari, this research aims to explore novel therapeutic approaches in the fight against diabetes and cancer, using synthetic derivatives of curcumin to assess potential health benefits across different cell lines.

This prestigious scholarship not only underscores Adesola's commitment to advancing medical research but also serves as a testament to the quality of education and research fostered at the University of the Western Cape.
