The University of the Western Cape (UWC) invite school learners to enter an art competition illustrating the role of mathematics in daily living.

The competition is open to all learners in the Western Cape. They may only enter one of the following categories: 
  1. The role of science in our daily lives; 
  2. The role of mathematics in our daily lives, and 
  3. Coding and robotics, and artificial intelligence, in our changing world.
Professor Josef de Beer, UWC Director of the Science Learning Centre for Africa, said learners can enter individually or in groups of two to four. 

Any medium including paint, pencil or pastels can be used on a A2 size poster. Learners may also design an electronic poster.

The deadline is 23 June 2023 and submissions can be hand delivered or couriered. Electronic posters can be emailed to science-learning-centre@uwc.ac.za.

Teachers must submit the entries and endure that they have permission from school to participate. Each entry should include a 100 word introduction.

On Saturday, 5 August 2023, a “Gallery Walk” will take place on campus where guests can view selected artwork. Prizes will be awarded to the best posters on the day.

Prizes includes LegoBoost Robotics kits, tablets and smartphones.
