Help UWC’s law champions get to Washington
As you may have heard, the UWC Moot Court Team just won the South African Qualifier for the Jessup Moot Competition - the oldest and largest moot competition in the world. (Haven’t heard about that? Read this.)
Now they’ll be off to compete against top law students from 90 countries, representing South Africa in the international round in Washington, DC (USA)...if they can secure funding.
Unfortunately, the flights, accommodation, transport, meals and visas all have to be self-funded...and that doesn’t come cheap.
To help raise the money, the team has turned to the kindness of strangers...and friends, family, enemies and anyone at all. They’ve set up an account on indiegogo to try crowdfunding here.
So, if you have a bit of spare cash - it doesn’t have to be much, the minimum amount is $1 (at about R12) - please do consider making a donation. And whether you give or not, please feel free to share the campaign with your friends and colleagues, via word-of-mouth or Facebook, or your blog or anything at all.
“This is a chance for us to represent South Africa in the world’s most prestigious law competition,” says UWC lecturer and Moot Court mentor, Pieter Koornhof. “It’s the first time a historically disadvantaged university gets to do that. The team will be incredibly humbled and grateful for any help.”
