The University of the Western Cape is traumatised and saddened to learn of the murder of our student, Mr Kamva Dasi. We are devastated that his young life has been cut short.
The incident occurred on Saturday night, 29 April 2023, in Belhar. Mr Dasi was fatally shot during an armed robbery. This is now a matter for the South African Police Services (SAPS). The University will, as always, cooperate fully with the SAPS.
The University has reached out and is in contact with his immediate family. The campus community - including students and staff - is in a state of grief. Counselling has been offered to all affected, and our full support will be provided in all instances.
Fellow students who may need professional and confidential counselling and psychological services can contact the Centre for Student Support Services (CSSS). For additional support, students are also encouraged to contact the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG). In collaboration with CSSS, SADAG provides a 24-hour toll-free counselling helpline to all UWC students. The number for this support is 0800 222 333.
The University expresses its heartfelt condolences to the Dasi family, extended family, friends and colleagues.
