UWC Mourns The Recent Loss To The Campus Community
Dear Campus Community,

We mourn with great sadness today the passing of three former students and one current student of UWC – the latter who was to graduate this year. The group were with a fifth friend who also passed on when they were travelling in a car that was involved in a collision on the R60 road near Robertson last Thursday.

It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to sisters Angelique Cloete, 25, and Chante Cloete, 21. Angelique was an alumnus of UWC who graduated five years ago, and Chante successfully completed her studies in 2021 and was scheduled to graduate in March of this year.

Their friends Jesse Gordon, 22, who had graduated last year (Cum Laude), and Jamie Peters, 24, who graduated at UWC a few years ago, also tragically passed away in the collision.

The families of the deceased have asked all at the University and for members of the public to be sensitive and to refrain from sharing images of the motor vehicle collision that are currently circulating on social media.

On behalf of the entire UWC community, we mourn the loss of four of our own as well as their dear friend. I extend my personal condolences to the Cloete, Gordon and Peters families who have all suffered a great loss. May the gentle souls of those who lost their lives rest in eternal peace.

Keep well and stay safe.

Respectfully,

Meko Ernest Magida
Acting Rector and Vice-Chancellor
