On Friday, 2 November 2018, three UWC students were awarded the Elliot Osrin full cost bursary funded by The Foschini Group (TFG). Representatives from TFG, UWC and a film crew surprised the recipients at their residences, who were under the impression that they were only one of the shortlisted candidates.
The awardees, Mr Sphamandla May (Honours BSc Computer Science), Ms Morongwa Mangope (Honours Information Systems) and Mr Shaquille Samsodien (Honours BSc Computer Science & IFS), will receive the 2019 bursary which covers tuition and accommodation, in addition to a food, travel, cellphone, laptop and clothing allowance. They will also have the opportunity to work for the largest retailer in South Africa upon completion of their studies.
All the candidates were put through a stringent application and interview process, and these three were selected from a pool of just under one hundred applicants.
