The 1st UNESCO Chair Student Seminar on Student Development and Leadership: The Values of Sport and Olympic Education will take place on 29 August 2023.
This seminar is the first of its instalments, held in collaboration between the UNESCO Chairs of the University of the Western Cape and University of Witwatersrand, Prof Marion Keim and Prof Ruksana Osman.
The student seminar will focus on the topic of student development and leadership: The values of sport, leadership and Olympic education. The seminar will introduce the concept of sport for development and peace, using a values based approach with sport as a vehicle to contribute towards the development of student leaders in the context of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The panel of speakers includes esteemed colleagues such as Mr Carlton Mukwevho (UNESCO Secretary General South Africa), Prof Matete Madiba (DVC of Student Development - UWC), Mr Jerome September (Dean of Students - WITS) and Prof Lester Davids (Graduate School of Business, Executive Engagement - UCT).
We will also have masters student speakers representing UWC and WITS sharing the student perspective.
