The Political Studies Department at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) invites you to attend the annual Keith Gottschalk Lecture on African Integration.

The need for critical scholarly and policy engagement on matters affecting the African continent is of utmost importance. Our continent continues to face the consequences of its historical legacies while contending with contemporary challenges. This event is the second installment of an annual lecture series which has the purpose of fostering critical dialogue on African integration and related matters.

The lecture is part of the Keith Gottschalk Award in African Integration, created by the Mauerberger Foundation Fund (MFF) to honour the contribution of Professor Keith Gottschalk to South African politics and political studies as a discipline. The award aligns with and supports the broader faculty and university mission by contributing to critical, engaged and applied scholarship. The lecture will form part of this year’s African Integration Day which is celebrated annually on 7 July.

We are pleased to announce that this year’s keynote speaker will be Prof Eddy Maloka. Prof Maloka is the current CEO of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), and Adjunct Professor at the Wits School of Governance. Prof Maloka has held academic posts and has been involved in policy advisory roles within the South African government. He has also held positions in various continental institutions, including NEPAD, with the APRM being the most recent.
