Greetings from South Africa, where we celebrate Women's Month in August, as a tribute to the more than 20 000 women who marched to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956, in protest against the extension of Pass Laws to women. 9 August is celebrated annually, as Women's Day.
The Politics Department (Rhodes University), in collaboration with the Centre for Women and Gender Studies (Nelson Mandela University) and the Historical Studies Department (University of Cape Town), is delighted to invite you to a virtual colloquium, where they will be joined by veterans of the armed struggle, scholars, and students in an intergenerational reflection on women's contributions to the armed struggle for national liberation in South Africa.
