UWC Dentistry marks World Oral Health day with mass screening and an oral health exhibition
The University of the Western Cape’s Faculty of Dentistry is using World Oral Health Day this week to spread the message that a clean and healthy mouth is key to general health and well-being.

The faculty will offer a dental screening for up to 250 students at the UWC Main Campus in Bellville this week to help spread awareness of this important message.

The faculty is the largest in sub-Saharan Africa, and what is unique is its joint platform with the Western Cape Department of Health, said Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry Professor Jeff Yengopal. Almost 77% of all the dental chairs available for treatment lie in the UWC training platform.

The dentistry faculty runs a structured system with a full array of services and was the only dental facility in the province which operated during the COVID lockdown.

The free dental screenings will be held inside our state-of-the-art mobile dental clinic which will be located in front of the Jakes Gerwell Hall on the Main Campus of UWC in Bellville this Friday, 24 March 2023, from 8h30-14h00.

The media is invited to attend and interview members of our academic and professional staff from the faculty while capturing images of the screenings.
