International Conference on Research Infrastructures (ICRI)
The next International Conference on Research Infrastructures, (ICRI), will be hosted in South Africa from 3 - 5 October 2016. The Department of Science and Technology (DST) will be co-hosting ICRI 2016 with the European Commission (EC). UWC has been appointed by DST-NRF to serve as the host institution for ICRI 2016. This appointment is supported by a R3.5 million grant to Professor Thandi Mgwebi.
The previous conferences were hosted under the Danish Presidency of the EU, in Copenhagen (2012), and the Greek Presidency in Athens (2014). ICRI is recognised as an international forum that encourages debate and discussion and takes further the discourse on research infrastructures (RI). Increasingly, this means bringing together a diverse set of players from all parts of the globe to foster the sharing of experiences and to promote global cooperation. UWC will have the opportunity to exhibit its most prominent science and innovation activities and achievements during the conference. An estimated 400 international scientists are expected to participate. It is a prestigious conference at which Minster Pandor and high international level delegations will feature. The NRF has partnered with DST in coordinating the conference.
