Launch of the Falling Walls Engage Hub South Africa
The Falling Walls Engage Hub South Africa will be launched on 28-29 November 2022 at UWC, bringing together South African, regional and international perspectives on Science Engagement and Planetary Health.

The launch will be hosted by the International Relations Office and the Faculty of Natural Sciences.

This is the Falling Walls Engage 9th Hub and we are proud at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) to come together to connect exciting South African and international perspectives on science engagement and planetary health. We can’t have a healthy planet without healthy people and for this we need science to come out from the library, out from the laboratory and into real life. This is what we, as science engagers at UWC, are passionate and dedicated to. We have chosen to focus on our four elements: fire, water, air and earth bringing the very best practices in science engagement onto a unique platform.

The University of the Western Cape, is an incubator of science engagement, and with its history as a promoter of social justice stands proudly side by side with Engage Hubs in Japan, Mexico, Canada, Australia – all with a common vision for 2022 of Planetary Health. On the 28th and 29th November, we gather together a small delegation of dedicated science engagers at the School of Government, UWC, sharing a common passion of taking science out of the library and out of the laboratory and into communities who not only benefit from the science but inform the future paths for the trajectory of a science in the service of and for people.

This is the beginning of our journey with Falling Walls to make sure that we promote science engagers for the benefit of our country, our region and the African Continent, leading up to the International Year of Science Engagement, 2027 with UWC as one of the proud partners promoting science across the globe.
