Leadership conversations to benefit society
The University of the Western Cape’s (UWC) Student Development and Support Department (SDS) will launch the Oliver Tambo, Steve Biko and Robert Sobukwe Leadership Conversations – series of seminars through which SDS encourages engagements and discussions using these foremost thinkers as torch bearers for the Leadership Conversations – on Friday 19 July.
“These men were intellectuals in their own right, and therefore deserve to be recognised for their seminal contribution to the building of South Africa as a democratic country; and hence the department saw it fit to name the programme in their honour,” said Ncedikhaya Magopeni, executive assistant to the Vice Rector: SDS.
Political analyst, Dr Somadoda Fikeni and Dr Simphiwe Sesanti of the University of Stellenbosch will be the main speakers at the launch of this series.
SDS has set the programme as a series of public engagement platforms where different people would be invited to speak on various critical topics that shape the South African society as we know it today, including its relationship with the continent. This would allow students, particularly, an opportunity to take part in the discussions and provide critique.
Themed: "Visionary Leadership for the Society's Development in the 21st Century", the series is also aimed at encouraging students and the public to read critically and debate thoughtfully as part of their own intellectual development journey.
Date: 19 July 2013
