Miners Shot Down Screening

Miners Shot Down FREE Film Screening THIS WEEK

Back by popular demand...UWC's Department of Political Studies is inviting you to a FREE film screening of Miners Shot Down, a compelling and award-winning documentary by Rehad Desai that takes a hard look at the the single most lethal use of force by South African security forces against civilians since the end of the Apartheid era.

Two years ago, a mining wage dispute went wrong, and 44 people were killed and dozens more injured in the Marikana Massacre. How did a simple strike turn so ugly? And what does all of this tell us about politics, society, economy, power and brutality in the new South Africa?

Join us as we explore a seminal and tragic event in modern South African history, and try to make sense of the madness.
