Government, medical aid schemes, labour and non-government organisations as well as academics are discussing the National Health Insurance (NHI). But the voice of the community health care workers (CHWs) is absent. The CHWs provide health care services to the poorest, incapacitated and terminally ill people in our communities. Yet the CHWs are among the most marginalised and vulnerable employees in our health care system.
