The University of the Western Cape cordially invite you to attend a Public Lecture by Prof Yra van Dijk (Chair in Netherlandic Studies - University Leiden in the Netherlands) titled 'Memory, media and violence in the Caribbean novel'.
Prof van Dijk will explore how discourse in the novels of the Dutch-Surinamese black author Astrid Roemer is tied to materiality: to objects, bodies, and earth. In the knots the violence of both language and society is revealed.
