Sports Campus Recreation Program
The Sport Admin Department, in partnership with UWC Residential Services and Kovacs, is launching a Campus recreation programme. The programme is aimed at getting residence and opi-dan students to participate in the University's co-curricular programme. The objective is to immerse our students in a holistic environment which is stress free, as opposed to the norm, and to promote healthy lifestyles through sport and recreation. In this setting social interaction is paramount. These activities serve as an opportunity to market our brand within the UWC community. All activities are accessible to both male and female participants, and provision shall be made for disabled students (in certain activities).
The following sporting codes are on offer:
Quidditch, walk-a-polo, basketball, hockey, goal ball, aerobics, beach volleyball, indigenous games, netball, cricket, futsal, supa-pool, table tennis, tag/touch rugby, chess and hiking.
With the exception of these once-off events, a league programme will be implemented at a later date.
A launch date for the programme has been confirmed:
Date: 06 March 2015
Time: 13h00 - 14h00 (Registration)
Time: 14h30 - 18h00 (Games start)
Venue: Basketball/Netball Courts/Cricket Club House and surrounding fields
Registration: Basketball/Netball courts
As an incentive to register early, T-shirts will be awarded to the first 100 participants (free of charge). There will also be a braai to spoil the first 200 participants that sign up. Several prizes are on offer, and medals and trophies will be awarded at the finalevent.
In keeping with the University’s ethos, these activities will place our students on the right path of excellence. For further enquiries, contact Derick Orderson on 021 959 2018 (w) or firstname.lastname@example.org.
