Join us to celebrate the launch of the UNESCO Chair in Sport, Development, Peace & Olympic Education. This Chair is situated at the University of the Western Cape and is the first in sport on the African continent.

Appointed as the UNESCO Chair, Prof. Marion Keim, honours the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu who served as the UWC Chancellor for almost 25 years and was one of the global icons that inspired her work.

The vision of the UNESCO Chair is to contribute to the understanding and advancement of Sport, Development and Peace as well as Olympic Education through high quality research, teaching, innovation, community engagement, integrating new technologies, and developing partnerships for learning and policy dialogue.

The Chair promotes a collaborative approach amongst global and African partners and is engaging and consulting with a number of key role players to ensure contributions are in line with the SDGs, the trends and recommendations in the Olympic Agenda 2020+5, AU Agenda 2063 and the UN Vision for 2030.
