UWC Hosts World Nutrition Congress
The University of the Western Cape (UWC), in partnership with the World Public Health Nutrition Association’s World Nutrition Congress, will be hosting the 2nd Annual Nutrition Congress; the annual event will take place at UWC’s main campus from 30 August till 2 September 2016.
The DST-NRF Centre of Excellence in Food Security (CoE-FS) at UWC is a co-host partnership between UWC and the University of Pretoria. The CoE-FS in Food Security aims at enabling South Africa to tackle the challenge of food security and nutrition faced by a significant number of its inhabitants. It is the first CoE to be hosted by a historically black university since the Centres of Excellence programme began 10 years ago. Professors David Sanders (the Congress Chair) and Rina Swart (Chair of the Local Organising Committee) are Principal Investigators of the CoE-FS Food Consumption thematic area of research.
At this year’s installment of the Nutrition Congress, attendees will be treated to scientific presentations, critical debates and planned actions. Researchers, policymakers, students, and activists will come together from different fields ranging from land and agriculture, through to dietetics, food retail and advertising, health systems, and nutritional outcomes. We warmly encourage you to participate in this process.
UWC Director for Research, Dr Thandi Mgwebi, said researchers who are interested in being a part of this event are invited to submit their abstracts. She added that the deadline for participation has been extended to 3rd April.
Details of each delegate who will be attending are very important - early bird registration is very helpful for planning and is appreciated. Places are limited to 1,200, therefore booking is essential. More information can be found on www.wncapetown2016.com.
