There is very little South African music written and arranged for wind ensemble and the UWC Wind Orchestra sees exploring this genre as its goal by recreating South African music for wind orchestra.

Auditions will be held for two wind ensembles, a junior and senior ensemble. The available instruments include: oboe, flute, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, french horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, percussion, string and electric bass, piano.

The UWC Centre for the Performing Arts strongly believes in community engagement, lifelong learning and distance learning. These ensembles are open to students (primary, secondary and tertiary), community musicians and community music practitioners, as well as those receiving private tuition who would enjoy the experience of performing in an ensemble.

These ensembles, junior and senior, will start as a standard wind ensemble in order to refine and develop a sound, but the aim is to create a wind orchestra that performs indigenous South African music from the Click Song to Sarie Marais, with some jazz and ghoema, giving a true South African flavour.

To schedule an audition time please contact Henriette Weber via or on 076 401 1167. Please note: The closing date for entries is 7 January 2014.
Rehearsals will start on 25 January 2014 and will take place every Saturday from 14:00-17:00 at the UWC Centre for the Performing Arts.
