BACKGROUND

The CHS Mobile Clinic is a project aimed at providing accessible healthcare services to underserved communities. With a focus on promoting health and well-being, the clinic will travel to different locations, offering health check-ups and consultations to those in need. This year, it started its first mission in Lanquedoc community as part of its CHS new extension of its footprint in Dwars River area, a project launched in collaboration with Dwars River Trust.

“Community engagement and social responsiveness are fundamental pillars of health sciences education at UWC, and the University has demonstrated that it is committed to going the extra mile in serving the communities in Cape Town and surrounding areas. With this mobile clinic, CHS will be able to deliver its services and commitment will continue to grow each year, thereby impacting communities and making health services accessible to the most vulnerable and marginalised,” said Prof Firdouza Waggie, Deputy Dean for Clinical and Community Engagement.

The Faculty of Community and Health Sciences at UWC has been working in various communities for an extensive period of time, placing health sciences students at various community organisations and institutions to deliver health and social care programmes that benefit the community members and university students.
