The DVC: Research & Innovation office cordially invites you to the upcoming webinar, titled: "Advancement of a Sustainable Society through research that underpins SDG 3 (Good health and well-being)"

This webinar aims to explore how research can contribute to the development of a sustainable society through the lens of SDG 3, which promotes good health and well-being for all. The webinar will delve into the role of research in addressing health-related challenges, improving healthcare systems, and fostering well-being at both individual and societal levels. It will highlight the significance of evidence-based research in informing policies, interventions, and practices that promote sustainable health outcomes. By showcasing the potential of research in advancing SDG 3, the webinar aims to inspire collaboration, knowledge sharing, and innovative approaches to achieve a sustainable and healthy society.

PANEL

The moderator for this session will be Dr Makhaya Malema, an early-career researcher in the Developing the Scholar (DTS) Programme offered by the office of the DVC: Research & Innovation and a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Community & Health Science in the Department of Sport, Recreation & Exercise Science (SRES).

Along with the following speakers:
  • Prof Jennifer Chipps - UWC Research Chair in Person-centred Digital Health, in the Faculty of Community Health Sciences. Her presentation will focus on the exponential increase in the use of digital technologies which has brought digital health to the forefront in the efforts for the advancement of a sustainable society.
  • Prof Marshall Keyster - Professor of Biotechnology and serves as the Chairperson of the Department of Biotechnology, UWC. His presentation will focus on ‘Using Biotechnological tools to study the plant-human health nexus.’
  • Prof Rina Swart - A registered dietitian/nutritionist with the HPCSA and part of the Department of Dietetics and Nutrition in the School of Public Health, UWC. Her presentation will focus on ‘Sustainable nutrition: Research, challenges and opportunities.’
  • Prof Anam Nyembezi - Senior Lecturer, in the Faculty of Community and Health Sciences, School of Public Health. A past research specialist in Population Health, Health Systems and Innovation at the Human Sciences Research Council. His Presentation will be focusing on ‘A life course approach to promote health and well-being of boys and men.’
