Webinar: "Blue finance - a red herring for coastal women - myths, gaps, and challenges in starting a small business?"
The EMS Faculty will be hosting a webinar title "Blue finance - a red herring for coastal women - myths, gaps, and challenges in starting a small business?"

Coastal communities are becoming increasingly poor and more vulnerable and women are often overlooked, ignored and excluded from the blue economy development agenda.

The promises of jobs, capacity development and skills, and development funding all seem to elude coastal women as the focus is on large-scale aquaculture, adventure and elite tourism, energy, oil, gas and mining, and sustainability through Marine Protected Areas.

This webinar will unpack the myths, gaps and challenges facing coastal women in the blue economy and will explore the following questions:
  1. What are the myths, gaps and challenges for coastal women to access blue finance?
  2. What can we learn from the struggles of fisher women for fishing rights?
  3. Why are women ignored, overlooked and excluded when starting small enterprises?
  4. What are the challenges in organising coastal women?
  5. What is design thinking and how do we apply it to coastal women?
