This webinar will cover topics such as copyright issues and the Copyright Amendment Bill, plagiarism with some examples, when to cite or reference, referencing styles, paraphrasing and quoting, use of open access and open educational resources, preparing for publishing, tips on improving writing skills, proofreading/editing, etc.  The slides and other useful resources will be made available to attendees.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Denise Rosemary Nicholson (BA HDipLib (UNISA), LLM (WITS)) retired from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa (Wits) in December 2020, after nearly 38 years’ professional service in various library posts.  She managed the Copyright Services Office for the University for 24 years. Her last post was Scholarly Communications Librarian, providing advice, lecturers and resources for academics, postgraduate and undergraduate students on copyright, plagiarism, research integrity, publishing, how to predatory publishing practices, how to apply for article processing charges assistance and related topics. She managed all the copyright clearances for course material at the University. In March 2021, she started her own consultancy, Scholarly Horizons.
