In this evolving and changing global context, leisure has taken on a special place, central to our daily lives. Several national and international organizations and local actors from the leisure industry have brought heightened awareness to leisure during Covid-19 pandemic. They allow citizens to be active and socially involved in their community. This is why, as part of World Leisure Day, we would like to invite you to participate in a World Leisure Wellness Day on 2 May 2023 at UWC.

World Leisure Day (WLD) is an initiative of the World Leisure Organization (WLO), which is celebrated on the 16th of April. Under the theme LEISURE MATTERS, the aim of the day is to reinforce leisure as a social right and its importance in daily life by celebrating globally. This is a festive period, where citizens worldwide have the opportunity to make their varied leisure activities prominent.

Although WLD is on the 16h of April, it is recognised that not everyone can host activities or events on that specific day, making it possible to present them as close as possible to the WLD.  The Department of Sport, Recreation and Exercise Science, BA (Hons) Sport Science (Community Health) students are organising a Wellness Day for students on the 2nd of May in celebration of WLD. It is quite fitting as the Staff Wellness Day is hosted on the 5th of May. The event will occur next to the Netball courts on the open grass space between Sports Administration and the Student Centre between 10:00-14:00. The Sport Science students and the 3rd year Sport and Recreation Management students will present various leisure activities during that time.
