A cleaner has made an allegation that she was shot with a paintball /rubber bullet by a member of security staff.
An investigation into this matter has since been instituted. The cleaner was taken to a medical Doctor for assessment. The Doctor’s report has indicated that no bruise or injury could be detected. We wish to put it on record that the security on campus are under strict instruction not to carry or use any weapons without prior authorisation. We have also over the last few weeks significantly reduced the complement of security staff on campus. I wish to emphasise that the University takes these allegations seriously and we are proceeding with an investigation. Appropriate action will be taken against anyone found to have violated the law or to have thrown any object at the cleaner concerned. It has also been suggested to the affected worker to open a case with the police for them to conduct an independent investigation.
Sincerely,
Mr M Regal
