As they saying goes “all good thing must come to an end”, this was the scenario as Faculty of Community and Health bids farewell to its 6 Student Assistants at CHS Bellville campus on 16 November 2023. The student’s assistants have played a pivotal part in the faculty operations and administration both at CHS Bellville campus as well CHS main campus at Robert Sobukwe Road. The student’s role in the faculty is quite extensive and are expected to be hands on number of projects and programmes. They also assist in administration duties, events and implementation of projects at faculty and departmental level with ease and professionalism. This exposure and experience have proven to be a valuable lesson and learning curve for the student’s assistants at large, an experience they will take with to their working environment in the not so distant future.
Every year, CHS sends out a call for student assistants to work within the faculty and departments, and in most cases, the faculty receives overwhelming interest and applications from students who are willing to be more engaged within the faculty, beyond studying, providing administrative assistance on a regular basis. The recruitment and selection process are open for all UWC students and always based on merit as well deserving students displaying leadership qualities and personality.
“Thank you for your service and we truly appreciated the effort you have put in your implementation of your duties and your commitment towards the faculty” said Mr Marquard Simpson, CHS Faculty Manager. Four of the Student Assistants will be graduating and two will be staying behind to continue with their studies. The following four students are graduating this year, upon successful completion of their assessments and exams, this includes Amy Stemmet (Bachelor of Social Work, Happy Buhle Shibiti (Bachelor of Law-LLB), Makhosi Ngomane (BSc Complementary Health Sciences) and Sinomtha Kobokana (Bachelor of Arts). “I wish to express my sincere effort and commitment towards your duties whilst at the faculty, all the best to those going to the work place next year and we will warmly welcome back those who are coming back in 2024”, said Chantal September.
The Faculty has already initiated a new process of recruitment and upskilling new student assistants. Come 2024, a new student assistants’ cohort will begin their exciting journey as student assistants across the Faculty. CHS genuinely appreciates the service of these fine students as they get to learn and carry out administrative, events, and operations-related duties. Furthermore, it’s good for their development, learning, and acquisition of new skills which they will need in the not-too-distant future. CHS wishes its aspirant graduate student assistant all the best for their future careers and endeavours in life.
