Education exchange programmes to break down stereotypes between UWC and Missouri University

The University of the Western Cape and the University of Missouri celebrated their 30th anniversary partnership at the Life Science building at UWC on 3rd March 2016. The partnership includes staff and student education exchange programmes.

Director of the Missouri South African education programme, Professor Rod Uphoff, said it is a very rare partnership, one where professionals collaborate across disciplines recognised by international bodies.

Prof Uphoff mentioned the different faculties which are most likely to benefit from the exchange programmes, faculties like Nursing, Physics, Science, Law. He added that these partnerships break down stereotypes and perceptions people have about a certain people or place.

The Director of the programme said this is a win-win for both institutions, and urged those who are interested in collaborating with international students to send through their research ideas to Professor Ramashwar Bharuthram before the 15th of August.

The Centre of Multilingualism and Diversities Research (CMDR) welcomed Prof Uphoff on behalf of the University of the Western Cape to explain the exchange programme to staff and students at the Linguistics department.

The seminar was well attended by students and staff at the department. Prof Uphoff answered questions about how UWC staff might get involved and how the selection process works.
