As the 2024 Enactus National Champions, the Enactus UWC team proudly represented South Africa at the prestigious 2024 Enactus World Cup.

This dynamic team of 11 students, hailing from four diverse faculties—Economics and Management Science, Law, Arts and Humanities, and Natural Sciences—embarked on a journey that showcased their dedication, innovation, and collaborative spirit. Guided by two faculty advisors from the UWC Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CEI), the team presented two of their groundbreaking social enterprises, Leno Kids and Webmax Solutions.

The Enactus World Cup, held from 1 to 4 October in Astana, Kazakhstan, brought together innovative minds from 29 countries. This global convergence of young social innovators, business leaders, and academics competed for the coveted title of Enactus World Cup Champion. The event provided a unique platform for these change-makers to connect, share ideas, and inspire one another.

Enactus chair Funinani Mugagadeli said that she and her team realised how the project they were presenting was needed even in a global context. “The focus on social impact was validated, and the judges were impressed with our projects to the point that they are interested in supporting them in future,” she said.

Preparation for this monumental event was intense. Over two months, the Enactus UWC team, with the support of Enactus South Africa, engaged in rigorous preparation. They received invaluable guidance from expert consultants and industry leaders, ensuring they were well-equipped to present their projects on the global stage.

The hard work and dedication of the Enactus UWC team paid off spectacularly. They advanced to the semi-final round, securing a place within the global Top 16 Enactus teams. This remarkable achievement highlighted their innovative approach and the impact of their social enterprises. Notably, Leno Kids, one of the projects presented by the team, was recognised as one of the top three Early-Stage Projects in the Action With Africa Challenge, making them the only African team to achieve this honour.

Reflecting on the experience, student Gcobisa Dziba, Director at Leno Kids, said, “Being part of this prestigious event was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I had the invaluable opportunity to learn from the judges’ feedback, particularly regarding the importance of impact numbers in our presentations. This insight will undoubtedly enhance our current projects and next year’s presentations.”

Fellow student Tshidivhano Dagada, Marketing Manager at Webmax Solutions, echoed this sentiment: "Having had the honour to represent my country, South Africa, on such a prestigious global stage was both humbling and empowering. This journey was a testament to the impact of social entrepreneurship and the transformative power of collaboration. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have been part of this remarkable event. It was my first international trip, made possible through generous support.”
