The scenes of malnourished Palestinians in Gaza are etched into our minds as the Israeli entity denies much needed food into the besieged enclave. Palestinians have had to scramble for food parcels as they contend with the ever-present threat of death by Israeli bombardments. Professor Stephen Devereux, who holds the NRF-Newton Fund Research Chair in Social Protection for Food Security, affiliated to the Institute for Social Development at UWC, has investigated the connection between state-imposed starvation and war crimes as we are seeing in Gaza.
