The Department of Statistics and Population Studies will be embarking on an outreach programme for Mathematics school teachers in the Western Cape.
The Mathematics syllabus at school has changed for Grade 10's from 2012. Mathematics now includes sections on Probability, Regression, Correlations and additional data handling techniques. Approximately 20% of the Matric Maths exam in 2014 will be on these sections. As teachers do not all have the background to teach these new Statistical sections our department was requested by StatsSA to become involved in the Maths4Stats programme. The WCED, StatsSA and UWC join hands on this project.
Our training sessions start on 28 July 2012. We have four Saturday morning sessions, spread over four months.
