The Nature Reserve Unit Faunal Survey took place in October 2024.

Our annual biodiversity survey was conducted from 14 -19 October 2024. This year we saw an incredible turnout of 198 participants over the 6 days. These included UWC staff, students from 10 different departments, as well as biodiversity experts from the Endangered Wildlife Trust, Cape Peninsula University of Technology and Biodiversity & Develpment Institute. Other experienced members from the community also joined.

We were also very excited that the Conservation Leadership Programme from Nature Connect and Meridian Pinehurst High School provided learners the opportunity to participate, giving them first-hand experience in a career in biodiversity.

Everyone was focused on photographing all types of biodiverstiy in the Cape Flats Nature Reserve. They did not disappoint...we received 3143 photographs! 2374 were downloaded to a shared Google Drive folder and 769 submitted via i-Naturalist amounting to a total of 273 species seen.
And once again, we had several additions!
