New Education Dean Vuyokazi Nomlomo

Professor Vuyokazi Nomlomo welcomes new Dean Appointment with open arms.

The University of the Western Cape (UWC) wishes to congratulate Professor Vuyokazi Nomlomo on her new appointment as the Dean of Education at the University.

Prof Nomlomo started working at UWC in 1998 as a lecturer and worked her way up by completing her PhD in Language and Literacy Studies. She has been involved in different leadership roles in the faculty - as the Deputy Director of Professional Programmes, the head of the Language Education Department, and later earning the title of Associate Professor, working alongside now retiringProfessor Zubeida Desai as the Deputy Dean.

Prof Nomlomo was born in the small village of Mqanduli in the rural Transkei region of the Eastern Cape. Before coming to UWC 18 years ago she worked as a high school teacher in the Eastern Cape.

Talking to Institutional Advancement, Prof Nomlomo says she is very excited about her new post, and despite the fear of the unknown, she is up for the challenge and cannot wait to give it her best. “I cannot do it alone and I rely on my team, I am prepared to work with the team to take the vision of the faculty, and that of the institution, forward”, she said.

“I can write six volumes about my experiences at the University of the Western Cape. I have been fortunate to be part of an engaging faculty which stimulated and supported me to be what I am today. I have been the Deputy Dean Education: Teaching and Learning, so even though I have never headed up a whole faculty before, I am quite clued up and shouldn’t have a hard time adapting to the tasks that come with being a Dean.

Prof Nomlomo says she welcomes the position with an open mind and with open arms. Finally, Prof Nomlomo said she is looking forward to her new journey of leading the faculty to greater heights. She will start as the new Dean of Education in January 2017.
