WATCH: New SRC sworn into office
On 7 April 2022, the new Student Representative Council (SRC) leadership was officially inaugurated and took the oath of office led by UWC Rector and Vice-Chancellor Professor Tyrone Pretorius.

Among other dignitaries in attendance included Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Student Development and Support Professor Pamela Dube, student structures and senior UWC staff members.

In welcoming the new SRC, the rector emphasised the importance of student leadership in general at a higher education institution like ours.

“The incoming SRC leadership should never take this task ahead of you for granted, instead you should embrace it and continue to advance the students' needs before yours. We as the management of UWC are looking forward to engaging with you, which I know at times won’t be easy but our door will always be open to listen,” said Prof Pretorius.

Echoing the Rector’s words, Prof Dube, couldn’t hold her excitement in welcoming the newly elected student representative in office.

“These are exciting times not only for students of this high prestige institution, but my office as well. You being elected by the vast student population of this institution proves and shows that the democratic process is working and continues to be a success. My office can’t wait to sit down and discuss all the challenges faced by the students of this institution. Yes at times we won’t agree with you but we will always be ready to work with you," added Dube.

In welcoming the SRC President Mandla-Onke Notyawa to the podium, the students stood up and sang jovial songs, who in return didn’t mince his words.

“The student population of UWC have spoken and shown that they believe, trust in us. So we will make sure that we work very hard, and strive towards the emancipation of our students demands of UWC” said Notyawa.
