UWC hosts its annual Open Day
The University of the Western Cape (UWC) held a very successful annual Open day for Grade 11 and 12 learners in the Western Cape who would like to study at UWC. The event took place at the UWC Main hall on Saturday 7 May 2016, from 09h00- 15h00.
The Open Day programme provided wide-ranging information on undergraduate courses, extracurricular activities, and the other exceptional extra-curricular opportunities the University offers to those who dream of being apart of this prestigious academic community in 2017.
Learners and parents had the opportunity to visit exhibitions presented by the University’s seven faculties and respective departments. Potential students were also invited to attend a general information session which granted them the opportunity to access key information relating to admission requirements, online applications, bursaries and loans, selection processes and residence options.
The programme of the day also allowed guests to enjoy a full bus tour of the campus, where they were showed different landmarks including the campus gym and residences.
Chelsea Japhta (17), a grade 12 pupil at Grassy Park High School, was among the hundreds of potential students who flocked to UWC’s Open Day this past weekend to seek out information on the courses the institution offers.
Japhta said the University of the Western Cape is her first choice university, “ I cannot wait for my June results so that I can apply for Law at this University. I did my research before coming here and nothing has changed. I still want to study Law, and I feel like everything was just simplified for me today”, she said.
Thobisani Lubelwana (17) from Vista High School said she is enjoying grade 12 and is excited about starting university in 2017, when she will be doing her first year in Physiotherapy. “Before coming here I had no idea what the course was about, except for bones, but today I am walking away with a lot of information. I do feel the pressure, and after coming here today I am even more determined to work hard and make sure that I get accepted for my first choice course at my favourite university. I am already in sync with the environment and the vibe at this campus,” she concluded.
