The University of the Western Cape (UWC) is proud to announce President Cyril Ramaphosa's appointment of Associate Professor Muneer Abduroaf from the Faculty of Law to the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious, and Linguistic Communities (CRL Rights Commission).

This esteemed appointment reflects Professor Abduroaf’s exceptional dedication to advancing constitutional values and fostering the protection of cultural, religious, and linguistic rights in South Africa. The CRL Rights Commission, established under the South African Constitution, is pivotal in ensuring that communities can enjoy and preserve their diverse heritage while promoting social cohesion and inclusivity.

Professor Abduroaf, a respected member of UWC’s Department of Private Law, has significantly contributed to legal scholarship and the promotion of human rights. His appointment follows a rigorous selection process overseen by the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, culminating in President Ramaphosa’s final approval for the 2024–2029 term.
