Karabo and Karabelo Moroaswi can also be found walking hand in hand on campus.The laughter of two students catches my attention. At first glance, I think I’m seeing double.
Two identical figures, deep in conversation, are oblivious to the world around them. Meet twins Karabo and Karabelo Moroaswi - UWC’s own dynamic duo.
The Moroaswi twins are known for their identical appearance and synchronised lifestyles, down to their matching outfits, nail polish, and even braces.
When I excitedly ask, “Are you twins?” they turn to each other, laugh, and answer in unison, “Yes!”
These 19-year-old second-year students from Johannesburg chose UWC because it was the only university that accepted both of them.
Refusing to be separated, they journeyed together to the Main Campus in Bellville, where Karabo studies BComm General and Karabelo studies BCom Financial Accounting.
Their bond is unbreakable, rooted in mutual support and shared experiences.
They share a room in a private accommodation, making decisions together without much debate.
What gets tongues wagging on campus is the twins’ fit - their matching outfits. Always well-dressed and making bold fashion statements.
“We don’t coordinate our outfits. We decide in the morning, and then off we go. We love shopping together and have the same taste, so there’s rarely any argument,” Karabelo says with a smile.
Despite their close bond, the twins admit to feeling homesick, missing their younger siblings back in Johannesburg.
“Being away from home isn’t really for us, but we have each other, and that makes a massive difference,” says Karabelo, the more extroverted of the twins.
Although they haven’t made many friends on campus, the twins enjoy being in their bubble, sharing a special connection that draws the attention and curiosity of other students. They embrace the UWC community, enjoying campus life and the sense of belonging it offers.
The Moroaswi twins are more than just identical faces on campus. They embody the spirit of community and mutual support that UWC fosters, reminding us of all of the strength that comes from togetherness.
