As the year draws to a close, I wish to extend my warm appreciation to every member of the University community for your dedication, resilience, and commitment to advancing our institution’s mission.
On behalf of Council, I express our sincere thanks to our Rector and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Robert Balfour, for his leadership during his first year of office. His stewardship has been instrumental in guiding the University through a period of consolidation and renewal. I would also like to acknowledge the Executive, Senate, staff, students, alumni, donors, partners, and all stakeholders who continue to uphold the values and aspirations of UWC. Council remains deeply appreciative of your collective efforts in strengthening the foundations upon which our academic excellence and societal contributions rest.
As we look ahead to the coming year, Council remains confident in the strategic direction of the University and inspired by the shared purpose that unites our community. This confidence is grounded in the approval of the Institutional Operating Plan (IOP) 2026–2030 at Council’s final sitting of 2025, which provides a clear and coherent framework to guide the University’s priorities and ambitions in the years ahead.
We wish you all a restful, safe, and rejuvenating festive season. Council looks forward to walking together with the University community into a new year of opportunity, collaboration, and continued excellence in service of our students, society, and the broader public good.
Warm regards,
Ms Xoliswa Mpongoshe
Chairperson of Council
