UWC Boxing 2015

UWC boxing heading to the top

University of the Western Cape (UWC) boxing administrator, Glen Bentley, believes UWC Boxing club is well on its way to becoming one of the best clubs in the country - especially following the team’s stellar performance in December 2014 at the USSA National Championships in Polokwane.

Bentley says he is proud of his team. The UWC boxing club sent 10 boxers to Polokwane and most of the fighters did extremely well in the competition. In total, UWC won 4 gold medals in the elite category and 5 gold medals in the novice category.

In the main category at the USSA Competition, 2nd year BCom student Pumlani Nkgetho won the ‘best bout of the competition’ award, and Sinethemba, “The Knockout Specialist” Blom, successfully defended his National Championship title in the under 64kg category, and was declared the best boxer of the tournament. Blom has fought a total of 15 fights in his career, winning all of them - with 10 knockouts.

Bentley is extremely happy with the performances of his fighters in 2014. And UWC will now gear up for many competitions in 2015. In March and April, UWC will participate in the Western Cape Championships, the Western Province Championships and the National Championships.

“I know that we will do well here as well, he says. “With such a strong team, our performance can only grow stronger from this point on.”

Sinethemba Blom, Sandiso Kota, Phumlani Nkgetho and Olivia Williams will definitely make us proud this year,” he said.
