
The University of the Western Cape (UWC) brought together industry leaders, alumni and strategic partners for an inspiring evening of connection, collaboration and bold ideas on 3 April 2025.
Hosted at the newly launched Brewdubs Coffee shop – UWC’s second vibrant on-campus café – the Executive Networking Function served as a celebration of innovation, partnership and the exciting future of the University’s multi-campus expansion.
Guests from diverse sectors – including tech, tourism, property, augmented reality and virtual reality, and information technology – were welcomed into an atmosphere buzzing with potential.
With generous catering sponsored by UWC campus partner Food and Connect, the warm setting fostered meaningful conversation over excellent coffee and a shared passion for progress.
The event wasn't just about networking – it was also about purpose. UWC used the opportunity to share highlights from its Multi-Campus Strategy, a bold vision to expand the University’s footprint across Bellville and Parow.
Some of the exciting developments showcased included:
- The University Innovation Hub, located at 405 Voortrekker Rd, Parow
- Hotel and Conference Facility – at the former Konica Minolta building, 4 Mike Pienaar Boulevard
- Student Accommodation – at the former ABSA building, 32 Voortrekker Rd, Bellville
- Interprofessional Clinic – former Pick n Pay, Bella Vista, Cross Street
- Community and Health Sciences building expansion – at vacant retail sites in Blanckenberg Street, Bellville.
These projects are not just about bricks and mortar but about creating spaces where ideas thrive, industries collaborate and students flourish.
Keynote speakers included UWC Rector and Vice-Chancellor Professor Robert Balfour, UWC Executive Director: Finance and Services, Mr Manie Regal, and The South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA) Chairperson, Mr Kevin Roman. They spoke passionately about UWC’s strategic direction, deepening partnerships, and the role of universities in reimagining South Africa’s urban and educational landscapes.
Henry Arnolds, Manie Regal, Ishtiaq Amien, Greg Erasmus, Prof Robert Balfour, Sujit Bhagattjee, Laurian Cupido and Paul Marais.Their insights underscored UWC’s position as a forward-thinking institution, ready to lead from the front in higher education, innovation and urban development.
The evening concluded with a celebratory dinner and a prize-giving ceremony, acknowledging those who continue to make UWC’s growth possible. Special appreciation was extended to: UWC’s Business Development Office, for leading event ideation and planning, its Department of Infrastructure and Engineering, for maintaining the event space, the Department of Risk and Compliance, the University Innovation Hub, and Institutional Advancement for creating a memorable event.
Design partners, Pure Design and Vukani, were also praised for their standout branding and signage. And much gratitude was paid to event sponsors Motsamayi Tourism Group, Watchprop, Food and Connect, and UWC’s Business Development Office.
The Executive Networking Function was more than an event – it was a powerful affirmation of UWC’s commitment to nurturing relationships that drive meaningful change. From dynamic property projects to game-changing tech collaborations, UWC continues to grow its impact, one partnership at a time.
