UWC Faculty of Law Hosts Research Workshop Programme to Advance Research Excellence
On Friday, 14 March 2025, the Faculty of Law at the University of the Western Cape hosted a full-day Research Workshop Programme at the School of Public Health. The event was convened by the Faculty’s Law Research Committee as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the Faculty’s research culture and advance its strategic goals under the Faculty Strategic Plan (2022–2026).
The workshop brought together academic staff from across the Faculty to reflect on current research developments, share best practices, and engage in strategic discussions aimed at enhancing research quality and output. It aligns with Strategic Objective 4 of the Faculty’s Strategic Plan, which is focused on “nurturing and strengthening the research culture in the Faculty in its pursuit of research excellence.”
The programme opened with welcoming remarks and an overview of the workshop objectives by the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Jacques de Ville. This was followed by a series of thematic presentations and interactive discussions, including:
As of the end of 2023, the Faculty is home to 18 NRF-rated researchers, including one A-rated and four B-rated academics. The consolidation of its four Research Centres, established in 2020, has further contributed to the Faculty’s research achievements and interdisciplinary collaborations.
This workshop is part of the Faculty’s broader commitment to supporting academic development, promoting research excellence, and fostering a dynamic and inclusive scholarly environment.
