The University of the Western Cape Council at its meeting of 14th December 2016 took a decision, after much deliberation, to increase tuition and residence fees by 8% for the 2017 academic year. The 8% increase is in line with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) recommendation to universities not to implement a fee increase of more than 8%.
The DHET has introduced a fee adjustment grant of 8% for 2017 (this is not a loan). This grant is an intervention to pay for the fee adjustment of 8% for students with a gross combined family income of up to R600 000 per annum.
Students with a gross combined family income of up to R600 000 per annum will be required to apply for the DHET grant. Please complete the online application via this link: http://bit.ly/2hk0kv3.
Please Note: Only South African citizens and citizens with a permanent South African residency studying towards an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in 2017 will be considered.
