The University of the Western Cape (UWC) will host the double-header of the Varsity Football semi-finals this week as the University Sports fraternity continues to honour the late rugby icon and UWC rugby head coach, Chester Williams. Mr Williams passed away on Friday.
The semi-final matches between UWC and North West University, as well as the Tshwane derby between the University of Pretoria (Tuks) and the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), will take place at UWC Sports Stadium on Thursday, 12 September 2019. First up will be Tuks-TUT clash at 4pm, followed by a repeat of last week’s game when UWC hosts North West for the second consecutive week.
In addition to honouring Mr Williams, the Tshwane derby, which was initially scheduled to take place in Pretoria, was moved to Cape Town due to on-going protests in Gauteng.
Mr Williams was the head coach of the UWC rugby team and helped the side qualify for their first ever FNB Varsity Cup competition - the premier university rugby competition in the country.
Sports fans are encouraged to turn up in their numbers to honour Mr Williams with their presence at the games, sporting their team colours, to pay their final respects to the much loved and respected Springbok legend.
The matches will be broadcast live on SuperSport 204 and SuperSport 210. For more information on the Varsity Football 2019 semi-finals, follow @VarsityDiski on social media.
