UWC Launch Masters in Creative Writing Anthology
UWC’s faculty of Arts proudly launched the first UWC Masters in Creative Writing Poetry Anthology entitled Harvest on the 10th of August 2016. The launch, which took place at the Hive in the old arts building, was attended by the poets who studied the Poetry module with poet and former UWC Prof, Wendy Woodward. The MACW programme is co-ordinated by published author, Dr Meg Vandermerwe, who teaches prose, with the poetry taught by prize-winning poet, Dr Kobus Moolman.
The audience was treated to the poets reading their poems available in the anthology.
Poets in the anthology include Jolyn Phillips (MA in Creative Writing), Hilda Wilson (MA in Creative Writing), Delia Meyer, Phyllis Orner and Ethne Mudge (MACW in process), Christopher Kudyahakudadirwe (MA in Creative Writing-Cum Laude), Gahlia Phillips (MA in Creative Writing-Cum Laude), Sandra Hill (MA in Creative Writing-Cum Laude) and Jana Ferreira (MA in Creative Writing).
Zulfa Abrahams is the artist whose evocative portrait “Harvest” appears on the cover and which gave the anthology its title. The original portrait which was shown at the launch was a dramatic presence. Credit for the publishing of the anthology goes to Ethne Mudge for her tireless work in co-ordinating and copy-editing the anthology and to Eben Grobler for his sketches of the poets, for his design and lay-out.
The anthology and its contributing poets travel to the McGregor Poetry Festival to present their work. The Harvest Poetry Collection is available to purchase at the Arts bookshop on campus and is an investment for anyone interested in reading poetry and/or studying creative writing.
