This ranking, also known as the Ranking Web of Universities, is curated by the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group affiliated with the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), Spain's largest public research body — provides a comprehensive review of universities worldwide, emphasising their digital presence and impact.
The Webometrics Ranking, updated biannually, has refined its methodology to more accurately evaluate higher education institutions' web presence and impact globally.

- Excellence (or Scholar), making up 40% of the evaluation, looks at the presence of a university's research papers among the top 10% most cited in their fields.
